Annual Fund Supports Students
Dylan
Fuge, a joint MEM/JD student from Santa Fe, N.M., knows firsthand
the importance of the Annual Fund. “The financial aid
that I received from the Nicholas School was the deciding
factor in my decision to come to Duke,” said Fuge. “It
definitely made the decision to pursue a joint degree easier.”
More than 45 students are expected to receive scholarship
support through the Annual Fund in 2003-2004.
Alexis Kingham, an MEM student in Resource Economics and
Policy from Swarthmore, Pa., also has experienced the enriching
opportunities that Annual Fund support provides. “My
first year, I participated in Judson Edeburn’s Western
Field Trip to Washington and Oregon,” recounts Kingham.
“We spent an entire day at Weyerhaeuser, and exposure
to foresters in the field and managers in the offices broadened
my perspective in ways that traditional classroom experiences
could not.” In 2003-2004, students from all three divisions
will participate in a diverse schedule of field trips.
The benefits of Annual Fund support do not end once a student
graduates. Former students laud the Office of Career Services,
which is supported by the Annual Fund. Susan Shipman MEM’00
said, “I was so impressed that career services didn’t
end after graduation. I was able to tap into it for guidance
for a career change multiple years after graduating from the
Nicholas School.”
Special guest lecturers, professional skills courses, technology
enhancements, alumni activities and continuing education opportunities
are also among the services Annual Fund support will make
possible in 2003-2004.
