Parents’ Help is Vital
Parent
support is vital to the Nicholas School Annual Fund. Melanie
Anne Taylor has two daughters at Duke: Clay, an environmental
science and policy major, and Anne, who is majoring in public
policy with a certificate in education. Although there are
many giving opportunities at Duke, Taylor earmarks her Parents’
Fund support for the Nicholas School.
“With a gift to the Nicholas School, my dollars do
double-duty. I am supporting both Duke and the environment
—each of which is critically important to my daughters’
futures,” said Taylor. “We all know that, as expensive
as it is, tuition does not fully cover the cost of a Duke
education. Annual Fund support helps to make a great experience
even better. I hope all parents will choose to support the
Annual Fund, regardless of whether their son or daughter is
an undergraduate, a master’s student or a PhD candidate.
All students benefit from the special experiences the Annual
Fund makes possible.
‘03 Annual Fund Surpasses Goal
The 2002-2003 Annual Fund met its goal of $625,000 with the
help of 1,710 alumni, parents and friends. “This was
a great come-from-behind effort,” said Dean William
H. Schlesinger. “The economy and concerns about war
made this one of the most difficult fund-raising climates
in many years, but alumni, parents, faculty and friends came
through for us magnificently. We were particularly grateful
for the challenge grant from Dr. Tom McMurray which boosted
giving in the homestretch.”
