Schlesinger Urges Ecological Society Members to Translate
Science for the Public
In his remarks in August as outgoing president
of the Ecological Society of America, William H. Schlesinger,
dean of the Nicholas School, went beyond the traditional “State
of the Society” address and urged members to do a better job
of educating the public about environmental issues. “Our science
is good; what we need to do is translate it to the public
and to the decision makers that our public elects to guide
environmental policy for this nation and often for the world.”
