Even after retiring from the U.S. Forest Service in 2001, Gerry is still working with them as a volunteer. In the summer of 2004, he was part of a Forest Service team that went to Armenia, at that government’s request, to evaluate insect and disease problems in the forested regions there and to offer recommendations for solutions.

Scott Jones MF’81 is going to be a very busy man this year. Scott’s Boston-based company, Forest Capital Partners, recently acquired 2.2 million acres of timberland from Boise Cascade. Adhering to a strong sense of corporate responsibility and environmental stewardship, Forest Capital Partners has “a deep commitment to the land, the environment, and the communities in which we live and operate.”

Tom Goss MF’82 is working full-time at Kingston Maurward College in Dorchester, Dorset, England, where he teaches Ecology and Conservation, Tree and Woodland Management, Ecology of Trees, Forests and Woodlands and Research Methods. Tom’s wife, Catherine, is a primary school teacher, and they have three children, Robert, 15, Harry,13 and Juliet, 9.

Randy Mayes MEM’82 recently published a book examining the phenomenal success of Kenyan runners, The Cybernetics of Kenyan Running: Hurry, Hurry Has No Blessing. He argues that, at this juncture in history, Kenyans have the necessary components required to excel in professional running. Randy is an athlete manager, writer, researcher and sports marketing consultant in North Carolina.

Craige Murray MF’82 is vice president for global manufacturing and sourcing at Tubular Textile Machinery in Lexington, Ky. He enjoys his work and also loves getting in the woods whenever possible.

Kim Williams MF’86 sends word that her new position as total quality manager with Boise Packaging in Wallula, Wash., is going well. “Lots to learn, but I’m really enjoying the people and the change.”

Bruce Bandorick MEM’90 formed Thunder Basin Environmental Consulting Inc. (TBEC) in 1993 and provided environmental compliance services to the oil and gas industry of Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain Region. In 2000, Bruce moved TBEC to Buffalo, Wyo., to be closer to the coal-bed methane (CBM) production fields. TBEC and associates have perfected and patented a new method for treatment of CBM discharge water to remove barium and reduce alkalinity and bicarbonate. Bruce presented the CleanSweep-barium invention to the Strategic Research Institute’s Fifth Annual Conference. TBEC’s Web site is at www.tbeconline.com.
