R/V Melville

Today we experienced our first foul weather, which consisted of an hour or so of heavy rain, cloudy skies throughout the day, and high winds. If this is the worst that we can expect, even the most squeamish should have no fears. Work continued through the ‘tempest;’ Emily charted dredge positions on the map (see photo), while the science crew set watch to record depth, magnetism and position (see photo). We are now at latitude 10 degrees North, longitude 105 degrees West: stars of the southern constellations are visible at night. In another day, we hope to reach our first waypoint. By Carrie Donnelly
