R/V Melville

Today we reached our first waypoint. We are currently at 6 degrees North, 103 degrees West. For the first several days we’ll continue collecting SeaBeam and magnetometer data, trying to fill in the topographic map in the region of the Incipient Ridge. The scientific crew has been working to plan where we will be performing dredges, wax cores and camera tows. We continue to have rainy weather and slightly rocky seas. Putting the XPT into the water (to collect daily water column measurements) was a bit of a challenge for Carrie Donnelly with the wet weather (see photo). The crew continues waiting for the excitement of the dredges to start on Wednesday (see photo). By Jenny McGuire
