R/V Melville

Today was dedicated exclusively to the camera tow, which Red Shift put out in the morning. All teams were extremely productive during the day so that the buckets full of rocks, which had been strewn everywhere, were cleared away and samples were prepared for lab work. Although the pictures from the camera tow did not show many rocks, it did show a baby giant squid (see photo), which is at least as exciting. Mel’s Angels (see photo) also hauled in a huge dredge before dawn, after the night had been plagued by tangled and overturned dredge wires, which Red Shift laboriously set to right. By Carrie Donnelly
