R/V Melville

Today was Mark Rudnicki’s Birthday, and to celebrate he made tortillas and had birthday cake (see photo). The rest of us packed up the lab and swabbed the deck (see photo); a few unfortunate souls were recruited by Heather to pick tiny glass samples for probe analysis (see photo). Besides being one of the more tedious jobs one could imagine, picking glass while the ship steams towards port makes Betsy very seasick. As we are rapidly approach Costa Rica, the lab looks more and more empty and dismantled, giving us all to understand that our time at sea is nearly at an end. By Carrie Donnelly
