R/V Melville

We continue to transit south. We are currently at position 24 degrees North, 113 degrees West. The weather is beautiful and the seas are calm. The scientific party got to know the ship today, including what to do in case the ship sinks or explodes into a fiery inferno. For a real treat, we put on our survival suits (see photo), which are rather like over-sized space suits. We tested the magnetometer by putting it in the water and dragging it behind us for several hours collecting data. And we spent more time preparing the lab for use (see photo). Whales and flying fish appeared around the ship, while some of us unwound in the “Club Melville Pool and Spa” (see photo).
