Brandon's Bio

by Stephanie Thirolle last modified 2007-10-22 09:57

Brandon WarnerAfter graduating from Boston College in 1999 with a Finance and Economics degree, my career has included positions as a senior consultant, securities investigator, and president of an e-commerce business. At Deloitte, I was part of a team hired to complete regulatory assessments before, during, and after banking and securities regulators performed an investigation. We helped clients demonstrate credibility to investors and analysts while distancing them from those that receive negative front-page news coverage. After a nine month leave of absence in New Zealand, I began a new position at the United States Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC). The scope of my fieldwork varied significantly–from the assessment of global financial firms' market risk management processes to the investigation of a potential Staten Island money laundering scheme. Not long after joining the SEC, I worked evenings and weekends as co-founder of an e-commerce business, www.TravelersJoy.com, in the wedding gift registry market.

The environment has always been an important part of my life outside of my career but I always wanted to dedicate more time to this passion. I determined the best way to make the career change was to attend graduate school – this decision led me to the Nicholas School. After one year at the Nicholas School, I've learned that almost by accident companies have discovered that environmental goals yield savings and revenue streams. How can this connection be made more clearly and explicitly? How can the environmental design capabilities of companies be enhanced, connected to business strategy, and applied more broadly? I intend to spend my career focusing on these questions and helping to transform product and service processes with new approaches that reduce environmental risks and costs. The common thread in this work is a clear focus on maximizing the value of investments in sustainability.
