Class Diversity: A+
I thought it would be important to share with you the amazing diversity of classes a Nicholas graduate student has access to.
Depending on the concentration of your MEM, the options available to construct your courseload can be endless. In addition to midterms and final exams, another stressful time is class selection. Selecting the class that best fits the skillset you want to graduate with is important. The best part though is that the Nicholas School allows you to jump between other graduate programs. For example, last year I was in an International Energy and Development course at the Sanford School of Public Policy; Environmental Law at Duke Law; and a Social Entrepreneurship class at Fuqua, Duke's graduate school of business. In fact, this semester I have one class in each of the schools above including the Nicholas School. If there is one piece of advice I can give about class selection it is not to limit yourself to the Nicholas School. Take advantage of the top graduate schools in the country all located within a 1 mile radius - it is an opportunity most people in the world will never have.
This weekend marks homecoming at Duke and the following fun events for all graduate students at Duke! (from GPSC News):
1) BEER-N-BISCUITS SAT. MORNING HOMECOMING TAILGATE!
Come to tailgate before the Duke vs. Va-Tech game from 10 a.m. in the Whitford Basketball Courts until kickoff at noon. There will be FREE breakfast sandwiches, biscuits, Yeungling, Miller Lite and orange juice (so you classier folks can bring your own champagne to make mimosas)...all delicious and all free!
2) President Brodhead began a tradition during Inauguration Weekend in 2004: a community-wide dance. Last year's dance was a huge success, with more than 2,500 guests. The evening will include performances by various Blue Devil dance and a capella groups. FREE Wine/beer bar, nonalcoholic beverages, light hors d'oeuvres, and dessert will be available throughout the evening!
