Guests, Events, Speakers! The season is in full swing.

by brandon last modified 2007-10-01 08:38

This week confirmed that I need to be sure there is some point in my life where I can be a full-time 'attendee' at every talk, seminar, guest lecture, and speaker series event at Duke.

Ask any student at the Nicholas School about one of the best perks of going to Duke and they will tell you the exposure to the most interesting, intelligent, and charismatic leaders in a host of industries.  The best part is not only having the opportunity to listen to these guests at Duke but also meeting these charismatic and visionary leaders.

Let me share my outings this past week with you.

Monday - "The Stories Around Us"  Five photographers who are recent graduates in the Documentary Studies program had prints on exhibition.

Tuesday - Corporate Sustainability Launch

Wednesday - Energy lunch with Joe Rinkevich, VP Value Chain, CommonWealth Biofuels LLC

Lorraine Bolsinger, VP GE Ecomagination,  Live Broadcast from Fuqua

Thursday - The university's Founders' Day Convocation in Duke Chapel.  Those honored at this year's   convocation included The Nicholas School's Pete and Ginny Nicholas, who received the Distinguished Alumni Award

Friday - Duke Jazz Ensemple with Johhny Griffin and part of the "Following Monk" series.  Johnny Griffin is a tenor saxophonist who performed with Thelonious Monk in the 1950s and 60s.  He has also performed extensively as a soloist, has headed his own band, and has played with many other jazz greats, including John Coltrane and Art Blakey.
