Who Doesn’t Love National Parks?

by brandon last modified 2008-01-02 08:10

The popularity of nonprofits serving National Parks has soared over the last decade.

As the National Park Service budget becomes leaner each year, dedicated and passionate individuals have formed friends groups and associations to help bring more support to the Park.  The biggest difference between a friends group and association is that a friends group is not authorized to sell goods and services.  Despite this difference, which can affect earned income opportunities, the missions of both are similar: private nonprofit corporations established under state and federal law that support the educational, scientific, historical, and interpretive activities of the National Park Service.  For many years, Associations have been among the National Park Service’s most effective supporters.

At Assateague, there are plenty of opportunities to explore selling goods and services on the island. Thus, Assateague National Seashore Alliance will likely apply for designation as an Association.

After speaking with several Executive Directors in this nonprofit field, I’ve learned that the value of quality, valuable partnerships can be priceless.  Read it from the source.
