About our Students
Most Nicholas School students are pursuing
the degree of Master
of Environmental Management (MEM) or Mastery
of Forestry (MF). The two professional degrees
are designed for students who are interested
in careers as natural resource managers and
environmental problem-solvers. Programs of study
emphasize applied science, economics, technology,
policy and quantitative methods of problem analysis
and decision-making.
The Nicholas School also offers concurrent
degrees in law, business, public policy
and teaching.
Five certificate programs can be pursued by
students in any of the professional degree programs
focusing on energy, geospatial analysis or international
development.
Students come to the Nicholas School with a
variety of undergraduate backgrounds, professional
experiences, and cultural backgrounds. Duke
interns and graduates are diverse in knowledge,
interests, skill sets and career aspirations.
The Nicholas School recognizes the importance
of blending rigorous graduate academic study
with career and professional development training
and opportunities. Career Services provides
a wide variety of services, programs and resources
that enhance a student's career preparedness.
They are thoroughly trained in analytical skills
and are challenged to think critically across
disciplines. They are exposed to a mix of science,
policy, management, and technology that enables
them to work in teams or individually to produce
workable solutions.
Through focused study, research, and practical
experience the school's graduates and students
are poised to become valuable employees or interns
for environmental consulting firms, businesses,
public agencies and global non-profit organizations.
Nicholas School interns
and graduates
can help organizations be more successful.
