The Nicholas School of the Environment attracts an experienced and diverse student
population to its professional and graduate programs:
Relevant Work Experience - 58 percent of graduates had environmental work experience before coming to the Nicholas School. Of these, 44 percent had one to 2.5 years of experience and 14 percent had three or more years of experience. The additional graduates had significant internship and academic research experiences.
Concurrent Degrees - Eight students completed concurrent degree programs.
Undergraduate Study - 13 percent of students completed double majors as undergraduates. 34 percent of students majored in natural sciences, 29 percent in environmental or earth science, 4 percent in engineering, 16 percent in social sciences, 3 percent in humanities, and 1 percent in physical sciences.
Geographic Diversity - 27 percent of graduates are from the Northeast United States, 16 percent from the Southeast US, 19 percent from the Mid-Atlantic US, 16 percent from the Midwest US, 13 percent from the Western US, and 9 percent from foreign countries.
Program Area - 27 percent of graduates specialized in coastal environmental management, 7 percent in ecosystem science and conservation, 3 percent in ecotoxicology and environmental health, 10 percent in energy and environment, 25 percent in environmental economics and policy, 7 percent in forest resource management, 6 percent in global environmental change, and 3 percent in water and air resources.
