Karen has over 20 years experience in career
services and has been leading Career Services
at the Nicholas School since 1990. Duke Basketball's
number one fan, Karen is a former high school
athletic director, coach and physical education
teacher. When asked what she enjoys most about
her work at the Nicholas School, Karen is quick
to answer "interacting with such bright and
passionate students, staying connected to the
alumni, and working with employers to facilitate
internship and permanent job opportunities for
students and graduates". She and her husband
live "among the trees" which they share with
Tsar, their Llewellyn Setter.
Karen was recognized as one of the Outstanding
Environmental Career Counselors of the 20th
Century, March 29, 2001; and the Southeastern
Environmental Counselor of the Year, 2000-2001
by the Environmental Career Center. The North
Carolina Association of Colleges and Employers
has also recognized her professional contributions
and accomplishments, awarding her the 1998 Furney
K. James Outstanding Service Award.
