Stopping Global Warming Starts Here!

Project Proposal
Stopping Global Warming Starts Here

When it comes to global warming, North Carolina has a lot at stake. Scientists predict sea levels could rise by nearly five feet before the century’s end, causing our coastline as we know it to disappear. Warmer seas will produce more severe tropical storms and hurricanes—causing severe damage on our coast, and more floods throughout the state.

The good news is that if we act now and act decisively we can stop the worst impacts of global warming. That's why this summer, Environment North Carolina is pushing the Clean Cars Act, which will dramatically cut global warming pollution from new cars, and help North Carolina bend the curve on greenhouse gas emissions that otherwise are projected to keep going up and up.

By joining the growing number of states that have already passed their own Clean Cars laws, North Carolina can help the United States be a leader on global warming solutions, not global warming skepticism.

The team of Stanback Interns working with Environment North Carolina this summer will work in key legislative districts, lobbying legislators, building an alliance of supporters on our campaigns, recruiting our members to attend lobby days, public hearings, and meetings with their legislators, and generating media attention to help ensure passage of the Clean Cars Act. Each intern will receive training on and be responsible for organizing his or her own legislative district or set of legislative districts.

While passage of the Clean Cars Act is our top priority, interns will also have the chance to work on our other campaigns to defend the state’s coastal waters and save our forests, farmlands, and other open spaces.

Qualifications :
We seek interns that have a strong commitment to environmental issues. We’re looking for quick studies who are analytical, goal-driven, and eager to take on a variety of tasks—from mastering the art of the Excel spreadsheet, to conducting an on-camera interview with the news media, to writing hard-hitting reports.

Location:
Downtown Raleigh: 112 S. Blount Street, Suite 102, Raleigh, NC 27601.

Supervisor(s):
Students will work with and be supervised by Elizabeth Ouzts, State Director and Margaret Hartzell, Field Organizer.
