Board of Visitors Event -- April 05, 2008

Last weekend, we hosted the Nicholas School Board of Visitors for a hands-on GIS demonstration, showcasing some of the work being done by the CEHI team. The Built Environment project was highlighted throughout the morning. Participants from the Board of Visitors used GIS software to explore detailed data about Durham neighborhoods collected by the CEHI field team.

After a brief introduction from Marie Lynn Miranda, CEHI's Director, teams of participants created maps of selected Central Durham neighborhoods, including Walltown, West End, Lyon Park, and East End. The groups considered how neighborhood quality may contribute or detract from personal or population-level health. In so doing, they learned more about Durham and CEHI's work in our home community.
