Asthma Alliance of North Carolina
The Asthma Alliance of North Carolina is a statewide partnership of local and state government agencies, academic institutions, local asthma coalitions, non-profits, and private industry working collaboratively to address asthma. The mission of the Asthma Alliance of NC is to reduce asthma morbidity and mortality for all people in North Carolina through a comprehensive public health approach.

City of Durham Department of Neighborhood Improvement Services Development and City of Durham Department of Community Development
The mission of the City of Durham Neighborhood Improvement Services Department is to improve the quality of life for Durham's residents by increasing access to safe livable housing and by improving the City's physical environment. The Department of Community Development coordinates the City's housing resources and various housing assistance programs, and promotes affordable housing by working with investors and community housing development organizations. The department provides assistance with the abatement of lead in older homes. The department administers the City's entitlement programs from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Children’s Environmental Health Branch of the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources Lead Poisoning Prevention Program
The North Carolina Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (CLPPP) currently coordinates clinical and environmental services aimed at eliminating childhood lead poisoning. NC CLPPP also provides technical assistance, training, and oversight for local inspectors to assure healthy and safe conditions. Early identification, surveillance, abatement enforcement, monitoring inspections, and risk assessments are among the program's other activities.

Community Partners Against Lead
Community Partners Against Lead (CPAL) is a lead outreach and intervention organization combining the interests, resources, and expertise of stakeholders in the issue of childhood lead poisoning and substandard housing. Several local organizations comprise CPAL, including the Durham County Health Department, the Durham Affordable Housing Coalition, the Durham Department of Housing and Community Development, the Partnership Effort for the Advancement of Children’s Health, Durham Parents Against Lead, Durham Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods, and Duke’s Children’s Environmental Health Initiative. The mission of CPAL is: To eliminate childhood lead poisoning in Durham County by 2010 using housing, education, and health initiatives using housing, education, and health initiatives.

Durham Affordable Housing Coalition
The mission of the Durham Affordable Housing Coalition (DAHC) is to promote safe, fair and affordable housing in Durham, North Carolina. Incorporated in 1990, DAHC has provided housing assistance to more than 6,000 low- and moderate-income households and helped secure more than $16 million in funding for affordable housing and economic development projects in Durham. For the past several years, DAHC’s major focus of work has been improving substandard housing and reducing lead poisoning.

Durham Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods
Durham Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods (Durham CAN) is based on the broad organization model of the national Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF). IAF leaders build relationships by holding hundreds of individual meetings where two people sit down to talk, share stories, agitate, challenge, share common visions, and build leadership networks. Durham CAN adheres strongly to the Iron Rule: Never Do Something For Someone They Can Do For Themselves. Durham CAN believes that people from all different backgrounds can be trained to be strong leaders in the community.

Durham County Health Department
The mission of the Durham County Health Department is to preserve, protect, and enhance the general health and environment of the community. This mission is accomplished by assuring all citizens have access to health services; providing high quality health promotion, education, consultation, treatment, surveillance, data management, and research; working to prevent disease; and enforcing health and environment regulations.

Durham Parents Against Lead
Durham Parents Against Lead (DPAL) is a group of parents of lead-poisoned children who are active in outreach and education. The mission of DPAL is to provide outreach to all parents and caregivers in Durham and to collaborate with local community groups, agencies, and organizations to eliminate lead poisoning through education, parent support, advocacy, resource referral, and legislative action. Founded in 2002, this emerging group represents the views of the affected population.

East Coast Migrant Head Start
The East Coast Migrant Head Start Project (ECMHSP) establishes, provides, and promotes continuity of Head Start services to migrant children and their families along the East Coast of the United States. By enabling children to develop their full potential, parents are challenged to become more self-actualized by being involved with their own child's development and in decision making structures throughout ECMHSP. Ongoing program and fiscal monitoring and training, and technical assistance assure the continual growth of quality child development services at the center level and the promotion of staff development activities on a regular basis.

El Centro Hispano
El Centro Hispano is a community-based organization with a mission to improve the quality of life and well being of working class Latino immigrants in Durham County and surrounding areas. Since its inception, El Centro Hispano has grown to become the largest grassroots community based organization in North Carolina, implementing programs in the areas of health education and prevention, education for women, men, and youth, information, advocacy, recreation and cultural programs, economic development, leadership development, and family support programs. These programs provide opportunities for Latinos to become involved in their communities as well as gain access to crucial health and human services.

Lead Ad Hoc Committee
The NC Children's Environmental Health Branch Ad hoc Lead Advisory Committee is a group that meets on a quarterly basis to share ideas, concerns, and strategies for heightened awareness and prevention of childhood lead poisoning throughout the state of North Carolina. The Ad hoc Committee, open to anyone with an interest in preventing childhood lead poisoning, is comprised of representatives from state and local health and housing-oriented agencies, community-based organizations, and institutions of higher education.

North Carolina Rural Communities Assistance Project
The North Carolina Rural Communities Assistance Project (NCRCAP) is a statewide nonprofit organization with the mission to provide assistance to low-income, rural communities on public health and environmental quality issues pertaining to water, wastewater, solid waste, and affordable housing needs. Incorporated June 1, 1987, NCRCAP has over 16 years of experience in assisting rural communities.

Partnership Effort for the Advancement of Children’s Health
The goal of the Partnership Effort for the Advancement of Children’s Health (PEACH) is to address environmental insults in children of color who live in deteriorated housing, older housing, and low income communities. PEACH was founded in 1996 as a community partnership between North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and the North East Central Durham (NECD) community based agency. The PEACH advisory board has a diverse board of representatives from grassroots organizations, local and state government, public education, colleges and universities, day care council, and other related community organizations.
