FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What is the difference between an interview table and an information booth?

Employers have the option to register for the use of an interview table, information booth, a preselected interview table or more than one option. Space is limited, so please be sure to discuss any special needs you might have for the Fair with us and we will do all we can to accommodate you.

  • Interview Table - The interviewing feature of the Fair enables employers and students to network and build relationships. This is what makes the Duke/Yale Fair unique! Employers are able to designate a recruiter(s) to conduct informational interviews with interested students from both schools. The recruiter(s) will receive resumes of the students in advance of the Fair. We strongly encourage employers to register for the use of an interview table. The recruiter(s) will conduct 9 half-hour informational interview sessions with up to 3 students per session - that's 27 candidates in one day!

  • Preselected Interview Table - A limited number of preselected screening interview schedules can be requested if organizations would like to select students from both the Duke Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences and the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies for specific job and/or internship opportunities based on resumes and cover letters submitted to the Yale Career Development Office by interested students. There is a limit of 5 preselected screening interview schedules. The employer will review the resumes of all students who express interest and inform Yale of students they would like to interview. Scheduling of interviews will be handled by Yale. In order to guarantee availability of a preselected screening interview schedule, the following criteria must be met:
    • Employer registration by Friday, December 12, 2008 (an additional fee of $100 will be charged)
    • Specific job/internship descriptions provided with registration
    • Students given at least seven days for resume drop period
    • o Employer must inform Yale of invited students for preselected screening interviews by Noon, Tuesday, January 13, 2009

  • Information Booth - Employers are able to bring a display, hand out brochures and other printed materials, and collect resumes of interested students. There is a separate area for information booths with limited space; therefore displays may not be wider than 6-feet. Tabletop displays work best. At least one recruiter (but no more than two) must be stationed at the booth for the duration of the Fair. Space is limited to 15 information booths and will be allowed on a first-come, first-served basis. REGISTER EARLY!

  • Interview Table & Information Booth - Employers may choose to register for the use of an interview table and an information booth. If this option is chosen, the employer must register and pay for the use of both. Because the interview tables and the information booths are located in separate areas, the employer will need to have at least one representative stationed at the interview table and at least one representative stationed at the information booth for the duration of the Fair.

  • Interview Table & Preselected Interview Table - Employers may choose to register for the use of an interview table and a preselected interview table. If this option is chosen, the employer must register and pay for the use of both. The employer will need to have at least one representative stationed at the interview table and at least one representative handling preselected interviews for the duration of the Fair.

  • Information Booth & Preselected Interview Table - Employers may choose to register for the use of an information booth and a preselected interview table. If this option is chosen, the employer must register and pay for the use of both. Because the interview tables and the information booths are located in separate areas, the employer will need to have at least one representative stationed at the interview table and at least one representative stationed at the information booth for the duration of the Fair.

  • Interview Table, Preselected Interview Table & Information Booth - Employers may choose to register for the use of an interview table, a preselected interview table and an information booth. If this option is chosen, the employer must register and pay for the use of all three options. Because the interview tables and the information booths are located in separate areas, the employer will need to have at least three representatives registered for the fair to station both interview tables and at least one representative stationed at the information booth for the duration of the Fair.

2. May I bring a display to the Fair?

Only organizations registering for an information booth may bring a display to the Fair. The displays must fit on or behind a 6-foot table. Organizations conducting interviews may distribute handouts to the students. Those wanting to have large displays must register for both an information booth and interview table. Space is limited to 15 information booths, so register early.

7. Should I arrive promptly at 7:30 A.M. even if my schedule has no students signed up for the first interviews beginning at 8:30 A.M.?

Yes. This is very important for three key reasons. Our Career Services Directors, Karen Kirchof and Peter Otis, would like to welcome you, take time to answer your questions and orient you to the conference facility and the day's schedule.

Early arrival provides time for you to organize your space and materials as well as meet other employer representatives at a continental breakfast.

Students also arrive at 7:30 AM and are given the opportunity to add any open interview to an employer's schedule, including the early morning interview times. Thus, a student may add an 8:30 AM interview to your schedule the morning of the Fair. Throughout the day students are able to sign-up for open interview slots on your schedule; therefore you should plan on a full day of interviews.

The format of the Fair is not conducive to staggered arrivals. Arriving late may delay your setup and can be disruptive to interviewing sessions already in progress. Participating for the full day is to your benefit, maximizing your interaction with the very best students and the Duke/Yale career services staff.
