Garcia-Johnson Receives International Honor
Ronie
Garcia-Johnson, assistant professor of environmental policy,
received the 2001 Harold and Margaret Sprout Award from the
International Studies Association (ISA) for her book, "Exporting
Environmentalism, U.S. Multinational Chemical Corporations
in Brazil and Mexico."
The annual award, established in 1972 and sponsored by the
ISA's Environmental Studies Section, honors the best book
or article published in the previous two years that makes
a significant contribution to the study of international environmental
policy or political issue, either with an international or
comparative perspective.
Garcia-Johnson received the honor and a $250 prize at the
ISA's recent conference in Chicago. Her book, published by
MIT Press in June 2000, examines industry's transnational
promotion of environmental ideas, and practices and challenges
other theoretical approaches to the study of international
environmental politics.
The ISA, which has worldwide membership, is one of the most
widely known scholarly associations in the field of international
studies.
