Breaking Records & Raising the Bar

Norman ChristensenMore than 1,800 alumni and friends of the school contributed a total of $612,845 to the Annual Fund in 2001, surpassing the goal of $575,000. The 2001 Annual Fund campaign was conducted in honor of Dean Norman L. Christensen, who stepped down as dean on June 30 after 10 years of distinguished service. "The high regard in which Norm is held is apparent when you consider the number of people who made contributions, and by the amount of money raised in support of the Annual Fund," said Jill Range, director of Alumni Affairs and the Annual Fund. "Alumni participation increased by an extraordinary 42 percent and overall giving increased by 20 percent. The challenge will be to do it again in 2002!"

The goal for the 2002 Annual Fund campaign, which began on July 1 and runs through June 30, 2002, is $625,000. Of this amount, $250,000 is designated for the Beaufort campus and $375,000 for the Durham campus. Annual Fund support makes possible a wide variety of programs including student financial aid, new course development, guest lecturers, field trips, special workshops, and other enrichment opportunities.
