Duke Teaching Observatory Open House

The next Duke Teaching Observatory Open House will be held on April 25 , 2008 beginning at 9:00 pm. Learn more about astronomy and enjoy stargazing with Duke physics professor Ronen Plesser. For more information, including cancellations, please visit the Observatory website.


Stream Watch

Join Stream Watch on Sunday, May 4, 2008 for the next New Hope Creek sampling date, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The group will meet at the Turkey Farm Road bridge (map). All sampling equipment will be provided.

Stream Watch is affiliated with the Division of Water Resources of the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources (DENR). Volunteers perform water sample tests along New Hope Creek and learn about water quality, indicator species, watersheds and natural resource management.

Forest Management Tour

Curious how forestry management decisions are made, or what types of practices are used on the Duke Forest?  Then join the Duke Forest staff for a Saturday morning management tour on May 31 , 2008!  Participants will visit recent harvest, prescribed burning, and planting sites to learn more about the various operations going on in the Forest.  Transportation through the Forest will be provided, but space will be limited.
