Recent Projects

April 2008

In honor of Earth Month at Duke, a group of graduate and professional students from the University completed two projects, also in the Couch Mountain area. One group eliminated unauthorized trails in this area, furthering the work of the Friends of the Duke Forest.  The second group installed water bars to improve the official trail by decreasing erosion.

Graduate students

In late April, students from Raleigh Charter High School came back to the Duke Forest for their second volunteer day this academic year.  It was a beautiful spring day on Bald Mountain, where the students worked to close trails through this Natural Heritage Area.

March 2008

Friends of the Duke Forest came out on what became a rainy day, but that did not dampen spirits!  The group worked to eliminate unauthorized trails on Couch Mountain, a registered Natural Heritage Area.  Their work will help protect the area and keep visitors on the maintained trails.

Thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers who work to make a difference in the Duke Forest!
