Alex Michalko
Alex is a second-year MEM student with a focus in environmental economics and policy. She is also pursuing an MBA at the Fuqua School of Business. She is interested in creating financial incentives for conservation.
Alex is originally from Palo Alto, California.
She received her BA in International Relations with a minor in Italian from Stanford University in 2003. After graduation,
she worked as an environmental educator aboard the 90-foot schooner Adventuress in Puget
Sound. She returned to San
Francisco to work in brand and business development at
Sony. She then began her career in land conservation at Peninsula Open Space
Trust (POST), where she worked for three years. During her time at POST, Alex managed the GIS mapping program and worked
on land acquisition projects. After completing the first year of her joint degree MBA/MEM program at Duke, Alex worked as a summer associate at Beartooth Capital Partners, a private equity real estate fund that invests in ranches in the West.
