Betsy Albright

Elizabeth (Betsy) Albright, a doctoral candidate at Nicholas School of the Environment, has recently been elected as a statewide at-large delegate to represent North Carolina at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.  Betsy received her undergraduate degree in chemistry at the College of Wooster and two masters in environmental science and policy from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University.  She is currently writing her dissertation at the Nicholas School on local level response to extreme flood events in the Central Danube river basin.  Her research has been supported by a Fulbright fellowship and by the National Science Foundation.  Prior to her graduate studies at Duke, Betsy worked for USEPA and the state of North Carolina developing water quality and land-use change simulation models. She also completed an internship for the US Department of State Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, where she worked on climate change policy and the Kyoto Protocol. When she is not working on her dissertation, she enjoys writing existential poetry in the back alleys of Budapest, painting abstractly, hiking, swimming and surfing on the coast of North Carolina.
