Cheetah Wheelies

by Valerie Cannon Oct 22, 2009

A short post for a busy week.

Many, many years ago I worked with a fantastic woman named Wendy. We worked on a horse farm as the “managers.” Really, what we did was shovel mountains of poo every day (literally) but for all of that, to this day, I don’t think I have had as much fun on any other job. We would laugh so hard on a daily basis we would fall over. Seriously, it is not possible to stand when laughing that hard. If you have never had that experience, I pity you.

One of our favorite things in the world was to find the next best Gary Larson cartoon and laugh

over coffee about it. I will never forget the first time I saw the Cheetah Wheelies one. I was standing at the end of the main section of the barn by the hose after giving everyone their morning dose of water. It’s this great depiction of Cheetahs racing around on their hind legs: Cheetah Wheelies.

That cartoon has stayed in my head ever since as a depiction of what it looks like when people are running around, freaking out, stressing so hard they can’t see straight and it helps bring some humor back into the situation. I have found myself bringing that cartoon to mind more than once this week as we prepare for our second move in as many months. So, forgive me for a short post but this grad student has some packing to do.
