Alan Abramson
Alan graduated From Duke University in 1980 with a B.A. in Political Science. Immediately after graduation, he went to work at Bankers Trust as a Government Securities trader. His finance career spanned 28 years, and he has had experiences in both sales and trading, at firms such as Salomon Brothers and Bear Stearns. He spent his last 21 years as a Managing Director at RBS Greenwich Capital, and from 2003 to 2008 he headed up their Government Sponsored Enterprise trading desk.
Alan enrolled in Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment in August of 2007 and received his Duke Environmental Leadership-Masters in Environmental Management degree in May of 2009. Alan’s passion for energy related issues and the environment coupled with his strong market background bring an important perspective to the Nicholas Institute. He currently holds the position of Visiting Carbon Markets Fellow and will be focused on our Carbon Market Initiative.
Alan had the unusual and exciting experience at graduation this May of graduating with his daughter, Samantha. His son, Scott, will be a sophomore at Duke. His wife, Lynn, is the outgoing Chairman of the Board of the United Way of Eastern Fairfield County. She will be attending Columbia Teachers College this fall.
