Charles
O. Holliday
Charles Holliday is chairman of the board and chief executive
officer of DuPont. Under his direction, DuPont has successfully
established a mission of achieving sustainable growth – increasing
shareholder and societal value while decreasing the company's
environmental footprint.
Holliday started at DuPont in the summer of 1970 at the company’s Old Hickory site, after receiving a B.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Tennessee. He was named DuPont’s CEO on Feb.1, 1998, and its chairman on Jan. 1, 1999. He is only the 18th executive to lead the company in more than 200 years of DuPont history.
A licensed professional engineer, Holliday was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 2004. He was named the chairman of the Business Roundtable's Task Force for Environment, Technology and Economy the same year. He is past chairman of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the Business Council and the American section of the Society of Chemical Industry. In 1996, Fortune magazine named him one of “Tomorrow’s CEOs.” In 1998, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland.
