Mike Donohue Studies Agritourism in Japan

MikeProject Description:

Much of the success and direction of my project will be guided by the type of guidance and data from my contacts here in Sapporo. The driving question of the study will is to determine if sustainable agriculture offers a competitive advantage in agritourism activities. My plan is to approach this question through farm visits and interviews. I am also interested in policy tools and regional planning that support agricultural tourism. As Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan, is a destination for agricultural tourism, the location is fitting. A related portion of the study will be a geospatial analysis of agritourism ventures in comparison to populations centers, additional tourist spots, major roads, etc.
