I’ll
be working with Trout Unlimited in the Big Lost River Basin of central
Idaho, studying the causes of Whirling Disease, an infection that threatens
trout populations in the rivers there. I’ve got a few stops to make
on the way there, though. My summer begins with a weeklong field
trip to the Intermountain Northwest. My classmates and I will be touring
forestry, mining, land conservation, hydroelectric and other operations
from Spokane, WA, through Coeur D’Alene, ID, to Missoula, MT and back
again. Back in Durham, I’ll pack up my apartment and car and head
to Philadelphia (with a side trip to visit friends in Boston) to attend
my little sister’s graduation ceremonies. After moving her out of
her apartment, she’ll join me on the cross-country trek to the Gem
State, where I’ll be working for the summer. At the end of the summer,
fellow MEMer, Aja-Peters Mason, will join me for the drive back to
Durham, just in time for the new semester.
