Back up your data
Without backups, students can lose important papers, faculty can
lose critical research and staff can lose documents that they've been
preparing for months. Backup regularly and protect yourself from data
loss.
Backing up means saving your files to multiple locations.
Files on the Nicholas network—those saved to your home directory or to
shared network directories—are backed up regularly, but to be sure you
can recover critical data you should save regularly and backup to disk
(external hard drives, CDs or USB flash drives) or other
server space.
Disks occasionally go bad making it difficult or
impossible to retrieve files. Disks also get lost. Always save
important files in at least two places.
