Email

The easiest way to check your e-mail is on the web at  https://webmail.duke.edu.  You will be prompted for your NetID and password.

For information on configuring an email application other than Duke webmail, visit  http://www.oit.duke.edu/helpdesk/email.

Manage your email account and other services at http://www.duke.edu/online.

Network Access

For assistance connecting to the Nicholas network in your office and lab, email Nicholas School IT at it@nicholas.duke.edu.

To register your personal laptop on the Duke wireless network, go to http://netreg.duke.edu.  For more information, see http://www.oit.duke.edu/access/wireless.

Software

Many software packages are available at reduced or no cost to Duke’s faculty. See http://www.oit.duke.edu/site.

Purchasing Computers

Your primary computer is purchased from your start-up funds. Thereafter, Nicholas IT provides a replacement on a three-year cycle.

The Duke Computer Store is an authorized reseller of Dell, Lenovo and Apple computers. Contact us for help in configuring and ordering your  system.

IT Security

Take time to protect yourself from identity theft and computer viruses.  For more information, see  http://www.security.duke.edu/.

Nicholas School Account

You will be given an account on the Nicholas School servers.  Most users use their NetID/acpub login and password for their Nicholas account. The two systems are separate, however, so if you change your password on your Nicholas account, it will not change the password on your acpub account

Data Storage

Your Nicholas account will give you access to a home directory, which has a 10GB quota.

All data is backed up nightly.  Although our backup failure rate is less than 1%, we recommend that you also backup data to ensure availability.

Web Pages

The Nicholas School webmaster will contact you concerning your faculty page on the Nicholas School’s website.

OIT also offers personal web space, http://www.oit.duke.edu/helpdesk/webpage/.

For assistance designing web pages, visit Web Solutions, http://www.aas.duke.edu/west/.
