NicTAC Agenda and Meeting Notes – November 30, 2007

Attendance: Pat Halpin, Brad Murray, Jennifer Swenson, Susan Gerbeth-Jones and Elluminate meeting with Sara Ashenburg on 12/4/07

What Nicholas IT has been up to:

- Improved cooling in server room, increased from 2.5 to 4.5 tons

- Piloted MEM graduates submitting MPs directly to Library for September and will also use for December grads – http://dukespace.lib.duke.edu

    • Pat suggested requesting funds from the Dean for scanning older MPs
      • – is there a permission issue? – restrict access
    • Jennifer asked if access to these could be ‘nested’ so that a google search doesn’t take you straight to it? 

- Cooperative education program w/ Durham Tech Community College – Stelian Igescu 

- New projector & VTC system in 153

    • Still to purchase separate LCD for VTC –

            Pat requested that the LCD be installed near camera using articulated arm so it can be positioned such that instructor and students can see.

 - Offsite backups for Durham and DUML – Tivoli system w/ OIT

 - Online Course Evals update

    • Pat noted that comments are not included in the final report with the current paper evaluations.
    • Sara requested that current form be made available online for DEL students.

- Network changes – now that all switches are updated in LSRC, next steps include:
            - move to new core

            - Old Chem change to new subnet

            - try to get 115 for DUML – Neal …. Tracy?

            - move to Netreg for DHCP and DNS services

      • Pat suggested adding a statement of consequence if policy not followed, e.g., “If there is evidence of gross infringements, the Duke IT Security office will be notified.”
