NicTAC meeting #1!
Attendees: Sara Ashenburg, Tom Crowley, Jon Goodall, Bryan Clark, Aparna Bamzai, Elliott Hazen (via VTC to Marine Lab), Susan Gerbeth-Jones
Welcome and introductions – 5 minutes
Mission and goals of NicTAC: – 10 minutes: (Some of these ideas are taken from: Advice for IT Advisory Committees, by William H. Pritchard, Educause Quarterly, Number 1, 2005, p. 52-53.)
- Details: See Charter (approved on December 4 of 2003 by NICTAC and Dean Schlesinger)
- Provide guidelines and policy on matters related to the use and implementation of technology in the Nicholas School
- Focus on strategic direction, not on procedures
- Since we will be looking at the “big issues,” we will rarely be involved with technical specifications or requirements
- Discussion & questions (Who is the chair of NicTAC?)
NicTAC Membership:
- As members, we each represent a unit which is part of the Nicholas School and at times we may have to compromise to “serve the greater good.”
- It’s our responsibility to communicate with those we represent!
- Membership is a one year term, with optional two years.
- Send a substitute representative if you will be absent.

Status of NicTAC 2005 projects – 15 minutes
- Ergonomics and PhD students
- Modelling students in particular are affected because they spend so much time at computer - BC
- Desks aren't made for computers-vintage 1950s - EH
