Cruise Preparation | Explosives

Carrying and use of explosives on board CAPE HATTERAS are normally forbidden. If a program plans the use of explosives of any sort, arrangements must be made well in advance with the Marine Superintendent. Procedures in NAVORD OP 3696 "Explosives Safety Precautions for Research Vessels", The UNOLS Research Vessel Safety Standards (Chapter 10) and Coast Guard publications will be followed in conducting explosives operations. Coast Guard approval is required for explosive storage magazines and loading plans. Explosives loading and transport onboard R/V CAPE HATTERAS is subject to the requirements outlined in Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 100-199. Ship and operations personnel will assist however the basic responsibility lies within the scientific party
