ENVIRON 256S.02. From Molecules to Management: Application of Molecular Tools to Marine Conservation

Overview of molecular tools that are vital to addressing marine conservation issues, e.g. mixed stock fisheries, bycatch, MPAs. Overview of standards of scientific literature including how to search online databases and journals, molecular “lingo”. Students will read primary scientific literature and present selected papers to the class; emphasis on discussion and critical evaluation of primary literature in seminar format. Final project will be a comprehensive review of primary literature relating to a particular species or issue of interest within the marine conservation realm, resulting in a written summary and class presentation.
