Marine Conservation Service Internships
The Duke Marine Lab is pleased to announce a new service internship opportunity for undergraduate students graduating in spring 2010. The interval between graduation and the first job, graduate, or professional school is one where graduating seniors have a window of opportunity for intensive service. Students will benefit by gaining practical experience in service in marine conservation and at the same time will contribute in a meaningful way towards conservation efforts.
Duke Marine Lab faculty are connected to an extensive network of local, national, and international marine conservation organizations. Service internships will be available with an established group of marine conservation partners, however, students may also initiate internships with other organizations after consultation with a faculty mentor. Students will be individually partnered with an organization based on their background and interests and the organization's needs.
The Marine Conservation Service Internship program will provide up to $5000 support for a 10-week service internship that can be used towards living expenses, travel, and supplies. Duke Marine Lab faculty will consult with student finalists to develop an appropriate budget and work plan during the matching process.
This program is
supported with funds from the Oak Foundation, an international
philanthropy funding projects in conservation, human rights, abuse,
housing, learning disabilities, and other social justice issues.
