Bio: My Master's work at the University of Toronto focused on the informal recycling economy in Vietnam and the feasibility of starting a credit union to help women involved in the informal recycling sector.My current research is conducted in Tortuguero, Costa Rica. In a nutshell, the tourists watch the turtles, and I watch the tourists...I am interested in the differences between ecotourism in theory and ecotourism in practice. I explore the tensions between tourism development, community, and environment through investigating the solid waste management challenges currently being faced by the community of Tortuguero, as they relate to tourism development.I am also extremely interested in creative re-use, i.e. use of recyclables and other used materials in art, music and architecture, and hope to work on this sometime in the future.
Hobbies: Ocean Conservancy Marine Debris Survey Director
(Schackleford Island, NC); collector of art/objects made from recycled materials;
soccer player.
