Learn, Explore, Enjoy
As a Nicholas Fellow, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to explore
our world-class research and teaching facilities. Researchers
at more than a dozen highly regarded centers and institutes associated
with the Nicholas School and Nicholas Institute are available
to offer you their expertise.
You can learn about the latest advances in marine and coastal
sciences at the Duke Marine Laboratory,
our beautiful oceanfront campus on Pivers Island near the historic
village of Beaufort, N.C., at the southern tip of the Outer Banks.
Or take a private tour of the 7,200-acre Duke
Forest, where Nicholas School scientists are conducting pioneering
studies on sustainable land use, wetlands restoration, and the
long-term impacts of elevated carbon dioxide levels on forest
plants and soils, among other critical environmental issues.
When it’s time to relax, you’ll find plenty of “left brain”
stimulation at the many art galleries, museums, concert halls,
parks, gardens, sports venues and theaters located on Duke’s campus
and in nearby Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.
