President Brodhead Visits Nicholas School

President Brodhead
Brodhead talks with Chameides and Weinthal

October 9, 2007

DURHAM, N.C. – President Richard H. Brodhead toured the Nicholas School and met with Dean William L. Chameides and three faculty members today.

“With plans for Nicholas Hall moving forward, external research funding on the rise, and faculty and student quality at an all-time high, it’s an exciting time at the Nicholas School. We appreciate that President Brodhead made time in his busy schedule to visit the school and sit down with us to learn more about what we’re accomplishing,” Chameides said. “Having university leaders who are involved and interested in the school’s progress is a true asset.”

Following a lunchtime meeting with Chameides, Brodhead toured the school’s Levine Science Research Center facilities and met with Richard Anderson, assistant professor of environmental sciences and policy, Martin D. Smith, assistant professor of environmental economics, and Erika Weinthal, associate professor of environmental policy, to learn about their research, outreach and teaching.

"I did an initial search of schools that offered an environmental policy degree. And what attracted me to this school is the professors and their research interests, and sort of the breadth and wealth of the courses that are available to take here -- everything from the policy courses to the more quantitative classes and the science classes at the Nicholas School."
