Karin McClune, Earthwatch team two

I have wanted to come to Madagascar for ages. We hear of deforestation, resource depletion, habitat fragmentation, and see photos of fuzzy, innocent animals. It's great to immers in a bigger picture. Where else can you see a rain forest, transitional forest, and spiny forest in one day's bouncy ride? Or whole, poroud families working a rice field? And Brittany Spears t-shirt sporting teen on a cell phone? Spicy colors and music, and a simple barefoot life wears well here. No buttons or zips. It all slips easily from the morning. It's good to share this with not your usual tourists, and to be part of a program affecting change in a gentle, non-interfering way. We are reminded how actions affect environment, affect sustainability, affect life experience. Besides, everyone should carry chickens, upside down, by their knees, at least once in their lives.
