My name is Katie Wolff and I am pursuing a Masters Degree
in Environmental Management from Duke University. In the
summer of 1999 I worked on a reforestation initiative and
studied rainforest ecology and conservation in Australia.
This experience sparked my interest in global environmental
and conservation issues, and I have been working to develop
these interests ever since.
This summer I will be using satellite remote sensing data
and GIS to analyze forest fragmentation over time with respect
to changes in lemur population density. I am honored to
be a part of this expedition team, and looking forward to
getting into the field to study Madagascar’s unique flora
and fauna. I hope to disseminate the data from my research
to the local communities and beyond, so that others may
develop an interest in the wildlife here and be moved, as
I have, to promote conservation efforts in their backyards
and worldwide.
