Nancy Phear, Earthwatch team two

My name is Nancy. Nancy Phear.
2004 is my twenty-fifth year.
I was born in New York,
not far from North Fork.
Now let me tell you how I got here!

A teacher I am, by trade and by heart.
South Central, LA is where I got my start.
My first year is done
but I've just begun
and so I come to Madagascar to take part.

The fossa we study- something like a cat.
We collect activity data and samples of scat.
Live chickens they eat,
carried in by their feet.
Luke urges us on with a smile and a pat.

Why am I here? There are so many reasons.
First, I thought it'd be personally pleasing,
and to be a good leader
and a strong teacher
and to help transition my life to it's next season.
