Trap Success
by Julia Bignall
July 1, 2005

After six days of trapping we have been lucky enough to capture three of Madagascar’s resident carnivores – a wild cat, (the jury is still out as to whether these are distinct from the feral domestic cat), an Indian civet (the only introduced carnivore to Madagascar apart from dogs and cats) and…………….. a fossa! Everyone at camp got to share in the excitement of the captures and observe as they were processed. The fossa capture was definitely a highlight. They have really, really long tails! Seeing these amazing animals up close and personal was a great experience.
