Mozzies and Malaria
by Julia Bignall
July 1, 2005

After day one conversations with other Earthwatch troops and the P.I., I discovered my choice of malaria tablet was not ideal and hence was completely paranoid about contracting malaria. Thereafter I have religiously worn long sleeves and applied DEET. Yes, the risk of malaria is real, but you’d be mighty unlucky to get it if you take the right precautions. Regardless of how vigilant you are however, you won’t be able to escape being bitten by mosquitos at the field camp. The lesson – choose your medication carefully; Lariam or Malarone is the way to go.
