Morondava Pickup
by Luke Dollar
July 25, 2005

Pierrot and I made the day-long, scary drive out of the forest to pick up the “Earthwatch Extreme Team” here in Morondava tomorrow. Following the rendez-vous, we’ll be packing ourselves onto a handmade local sailboat, going overseas to Belo sur Mer (8 hours to 2 days), and then hiking across salt flats (another 20 km) into the forest. It’ll be an amazing adventure! It’s also the most reliable way to get everyone into the forest without again risking a river-sunken truck! The voyage may take one day; it may take three. It depends on the wind, sun, water supply, and fitness of the whole team. Wish us luck and check back to hear how the trip fares!
