Uroplatus AMEN!
by Alberto Gonzalez Gallina
July 9, 2005

Imagine a wild cat trapped inside a lizard’s body….that’s what happens when you’ve got an Uroplatus. One of the coolest lizards ever, a must see for every herpfan.

My first season in Madagascar one of my goals here was to find myself a nice fat leaf tailed gecko, and well…after going insane trying to find them I found out they were active during rainy season, so chances were I wouldn’t find one, and so it happened, not one (until Andasibe/ see last years website)…at least not in Ankarafantsika. But guess what?, second time on Madagascar, same park, same season (winter) right…no uroplatus but WOW! what the heck is that eye shine?….No!, Could that be?!….Yes! it’s an Uroplatus!….Victory! At last one of those guys, in the middle of the dry season, against all odds…and well…

I’ve seen a fossa, and now I’ve seen an Uroplatus…I think I’m ready to go home then!, mission accomplished for me in Madagascar. That’s how good I felt when I saw that squicking little fellow climbing through the branches.
