Housing
Many of you will be in search of roommates and/or apartments for the fall. You may wish to contact each other for possible roommates and/or housing. We have established a listserv for that purpose (housing-info@nicholas.duke.edu), to which you have been subscribed. The same listserv may also be used by graduating students looking for students to take over their houses or apartments and to sell unwanted furniture. Returning students may be looking for roommates or may be able to make suggestions and/or answer questions. Students who wish to unsubscribe from the housing listserv here. However, you will need your Duke Net-ID and password in order to acess the listserv subscription options. For listserv questions and concerns please contact: housing-info-request@nicholas.duke.edu.
We urge you to visit Duke's Community Housing Office Web site http://communityhousing.duke.edu/. You may search the site for housing based on your parameters. They can answer questions for you as well by calling 919-684-6711. A very limited amount of on-campus housing will be available for graduate/ professional students. However, priority will be given to international students. If you are interested in receiving additional information about on-campus housing, visit the Housing Administration Web page located at http://rlhs.studentaffairs.duke.edu/ or call them at 919-684-4304.
In addition, we encourage you to visit the Nickipedia website at https://wiki.duke.edu/display/nickipedia/Home. This is a new reference site developed by Nicholas School students for the Nicholas School community. Housing listings may be found under Nicklist (Classifieds). The Enrollment Services office also has two paper publications available, which includes additional housing information. If you would like to receive these publications, send an email to admissions@nicholas.duke.edu along with a current mailing address.
It is a good idea to have decided on housing well in advance of August 17th when orientation is scheduled to begin. While Durham has plentiful housing of various types and in various price ranges, the closer and less expensive ones tend to be taken long before August. If the worst-case scenario happens and you cannot find a place to live until you arrive for orientation or if you cannot move into your new accommodations prior to orientation, please let us know and we will help you find a place to stay for a few nights until you can finalize your housing arrangements. We encourage you to move to Durham at least a week before orientation begins if you can, so as to ease your transition and settling in process.
