Admitted Students Information

Prerequisites

The prerequisite notice you received, along with your letter of acceptance, may have indicated that you are deficient in one or more prerequisites. Although no deficiencies may have been identified for you, your knowledge base in a given subject may be a bit rusty if you took the course(s) some time ago or if the course(s) that you took did not cover sufficiently all of the material needed as a base for graduate/ professional courses. To assist students with determining if additional foundation work is needed in calculus and statistics, Dr. Lynn Maguire, Director of Professional Studies, has developed review instruments for these areas.

To access review information on statistics, please see http://www.env.duke.edu/people/students/advising/stat-placement.html. For review information on calculus, you may go to http://www.env.duke.edu/people/students/advising/calc-placement.html

We strongly encourage you to review your knowledge of calculus and statistics (and any other prerequisite for your program area) over the summer even if you recently took courses that cover these subjects. If these subjects are not fresh in your mind it is critical that you spend some significant time reviewing both areas by obtaining a text book and making sure you can do problems and understand formulae and theories.

We strongly advise and urge that you complete ALL prerequisites prior to enrolling in the Nicholas School. If, however, you have determined that you need to complete the statistics prerequisite this fall, you will be required to take a placement exam prior to registration for a statistics course at Duke. Register for one of the placement exams here >
